Validation

My strength, when I was a journalist, was finding stories. Many of those printed in the newspapers hadn't come on a silver platter, rather, it was good old fashioned detective work that had brought their light of day.

Some of my colleagues struggled with this aspect of our job, but they may have been excellent writers, or top wordsmiths or great interviewers, able to ask the perfect questions. There were a number of skills involved in being a journalist. We each had our strengths.

I wasn't considered a very good writer, but I loved the craft, just the same, and I was always able to come up with plenty of stories. I think that was partly because of my intuition, which has always been strong.

So, I have been feeling satisfied lately, when I have seen stories I have written about, appearing a few days later in the country's newspapers. The last two were my stories on flies and binge eating. When I wrote the first one, I was thinking, Who wants to hear about flies? Obviously, I was not alone in my thoughts to write about them because two days later, a story appeared in one of the newspapers about how bad flies are expected to be this year and how they love the humid conditions I described. Then yesterday, there was an article about binge eating.

In my blogs, I write about the mundane parts of my life and often I think they are most likely too boring for many people, so it is always good to see that someone has written about a similar thing.

That brings me to another point. When I was working for the paper, there were daily polls, asking people's views on a relevant topic of the day. Every time, bar one, my views represented those of the majority of people, making me realise that I am very ordinary in my thinking, agreeing with the majority of people.

I know this doesn't equate to my spiritual views but I don't remember any questions being asked on that topic. But I do think times are changing. Maybe I will soon see articles in the papers written about reincarnation. Who knows?
