The octopus

Those who read my blog four days ago, will have learned of my synchronistic experiences involving the three monkeys, see no evil, hear no evil, and speak no evil. My friend had asked for a photo depicting these and with 24 hours I had seen four sets of them, after not having seen any for years. I knew there must be a message for me in this.

In the last 24 hours I have seen the octopus four times as well, and with the third viewing, I realised, once again, that it must be carrying a further message for me. And it was only a couple of months ago that I saw my first ever live octopus at one of the local beaches.

In the latest sightings, Genevieve had come across one of these fascinating creatures at the beach and videoed it. After offering the octopus a clam shell, the little fella came towards her, feeling her out with his little tentacles. It was a special moment. The next image was of an octopus opening a jar he was encased in. This was a clip in a video depicting clever animals. The third was fascinating and that was of an octopus changing colour and shape as he moved across the deeply-colourful ocean floor. It was this clip that made me realise that I had seen too many of these mollusks for them not to be trying to tell me something.

I immediately thought of the octopus in Barry Brailsford’s book, Wisdom of the Four Winds. This book contains a set of inspirational cards, depicting New Zealand’s flora and fauna. The octopus, or Te Wheke’s meaning is one of resolution. The arrival of octopus is an invitation to face some of your deepest fears. It is a significant time of self-discovery, the moment to reclaim your life, within the realm of the West Wind, the place of reflection…..Remember that the shadow is a teacher, and that it is transformed and healed by love. Know that the octopus offers the eighth tentacle of release; its name is forgiveness. Find and forgive those who caused you pain and forgive yourself. Without forgiveness we remain victims of all they placed upon us, and allow it to continue….In resolutely facing your fear you will discover new strengths and horizons. You will actually see that the monster of the deep is actually a gentle creature of the sea that helps your learning.

I do know what this is referring to and the exciting part of it is that there may finally be an end to some of these deep-seated fears I have been carrying. Whilst I know that they have stemmed from my previous lives, it is of no help to me unless I can heal them and set them free. I look forward to doing some self-work and perhaps doing just that. Thank you octopus for coming into my life.
