Market bargains

For a moment this morning, I forgot that I lived on a small peninsula. As Stephen and I waited to turn into the hall, cars coming from all directions, I reflected that the scene felt much like an urban one, rather than the usually sleepy village. The occasion was the Long-Weekend market, as its name suggests, one of the markets held each holiday weekend, generally on a Sunday. And this one was particularly well-supported with more people and cars than I had ever seen at any of these. I had wondered whether to bring my books and offer the same deals as I did at the Mind, Body event but decided against it as had had little success the last time I had tried to sell my books there. Though in saying that, I wasn’t offering healings or readings. In the past, when I used to take my massage chair down, I was always very busy and gained extra clients for my efforts. I am not after clients now, just book sales. With the amount of people there this morning, I may have had some success. Unless one gives it a go, one never knows what they may have missed out on.

I bought four cabbage trees, my favourite tree, to go along the unfenced boundary area. I will still leave room for cars to go between our sections, if necessary, but cabbage trees will fill out the space beautifully. I took some raffles – Stephen won some biscuits for his efforts and we bought a brick, a small plaque that will join others lining the hall wall, a fundraiser for the hall’s upkeep. And of course, the food, I had chowder, a mussel fritter and cakes. Does any of that sound like keto? No, but I had already decided that I wouldn’t observe keto restrictions today, especially after eating a whole lot of non-keto food yesterday. And now there is a jar of biscuits to resist, I can see getting back on track is going to be more difficult than I thought.

I also bought a selection of young-adult animal stories, which I know Willow will love, a keto cook book and a small wooden, pencil-holder with a little drawer, all in all, a great lot of bargains.

I am especially looking forward to getting the cabbage trees in the ground, though not looking forward to digging their holes as the area is compacted clay, rather than sand as in the top half of the garden. Yesterday, Stephen and I bought some polyanthus, pansies and a stock for the other little garden off the deck that we had created and after returning from the market this morning, Stephen mowed the lawns while I added some more bricks around the tank, creating an edge for that garden, now that the agapanthus plants have been removed. This garden is visible from the sitting room and is one I used to plant gladioli in, however, with the agapanthus, these had not been planted for the last few years. I look forward to having their beautiful flowers once again.

With my consumption of flour and sugar this morning, I really felt the slump after I had eaten, just showing me that the keto way of eating definitely makes me feel better than when I eat carbohydrates. It is just difficult pulling oneself back once one has consumed sugar again, but if I want to lose weight, then that will power will have to come into play.

The weather is overcast but not yet raining so we have been lucky being able to get everything we wanted to, done. Time to put my feet up now and let that belly digest all those biscuits.
