Changes
Changes 27.5.22
There have been several changes this past week, interrupting our normal routine. Changing internet and phone providers isn’t as straight forward as it seems. One has to actually wait for the new components to arrive by courier, thus resulting, in our case, no internet for several days, which meant no tv either. We had disassembled our tv dish several years ago after not needing it with our previous provider. I did have phone internet during this time, though not to my computer. I continued writing my blogs but was unable to post them until the internet was restored to the house, which happened a couple of days ago.
The phone is another matter. I had arranged with the provider for this connection to be swapped over on May 29, but as I seemed to need the phone to get the tv going, I put my new sim card in. The technician said the connection date could be brought forward and I would have my phone working within 24 hours. However, the connection has not yet been activated, resulting in no phone since Wednesday afternoon. Yes, I could have put my old sim back in, but didn’t really mind a day’s wait. I am hoping that today, I’ll have that back on board too.
The other change, is we are having a heat pump installed. I have lived in this house for eight years now and have never had anything more than a small plug-in heater, both expensive to run and ineffective in its heating. When houses were built here in the past, not much importance was given to heating as it was thought the climate was relatively mild. For those who did have fireplaces installed, they were generally small and not particularly efficient. Yes, the climate is a lot warmer here, compared to the central North Island, for example, but anyone living here acclimatises to their environment. I remember my first year in Northland 40 years ago, where I spent the winter dressed in a tee shirt. That soon changed after a few months and the following winter I was dressing nearly as warmly as when I had lived further down country.
So, it will be nice to have a warm, cosy house on those cold nights.
I wrote a blog earlier about the waiting; all this to test my patience, I am sure. But I know it will all be worth it, once everything is up and running as it should be. And I have been given the date of May 31st for the editing of The Collective US to be completed, so am very excited.
Update: My phone was activated yesterday, I just needed to switch my Samsung on and off to make it viable at my end and the heat pump is now installed. Changes complete.
