Book launch and busy-ness
Stephen and I attended a lovely book launch yesterday with one of the women from our writing group debuting her first book. Lovely food, lovely people and lots of books sold, what more could one want? Our little group has been together now for a number of years, at least eight, though I can’t remember exactly how long. No one has left voluntarily (one died) and we have kept the number at six. Two of the other members have books on the way, Leena with three, along with some side stories, and Stephanie, one. I remember, and it seems so long ago now, when Leena said she was starting a trilogy. Well, two of these books are completed and the third nearly so, with two about to be published. A great achievement, I think, for Leena and our little group. It definitely helps when everyone is supportive of each other, along with the setting of yearly goals to help one’s personal accountability.
I still need to think about what I am going to do for launching Ty’s Roller Coaster Ride, though with Sarah, the illustrator, living on Great Barrier Island, it does make things a little difficult. With the spiritual books, I knew to ask people interested in that kind of thing. With a children’s book, that becomes a little more difficult I think, though I have been told, not so. It would be great if Sarah was ever coming up this way, or we were to go to Great Barrier, something we have been meaning to do for some time. That way both of us would be together for the launch. But as I didn’t have the launch of Who Is Me? for five years, I know I have a bit of time up my sleeve!
It seems I have another couple of busy months ahead and with a trip to the Gold Coast planned for the end of March, not much time to get it all done. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to say yes more than no, but it seems the doors have opened to all kinds of things. And not all good either – a dentist appointment features amongst that lot. My own dentist was unable to see me until April but as I didn’t have my flight booked, I opted for May. That was ringing for the appointment in December last year. But as the time has ticked on, I can feel my mouth becoming sorer. This morning I rang another dentist and have an appointment for March instead. My brother is due for a visit from China, next week and two of my kids are coming home from Gold Coast at the end of the month, requesting a big family get-together in the process. I have volunteered a pizza night, and set up a family page to let everyone know. Now I remember why I haven’t done this before – the teasing that goes on.
We have our social media workshop coming up as well next week and the other writing group sharing get-together later in the month, the same day my two are arriving from Gold Coast. I’m not sure yet whether I’ll be able to attend that one, something I had wanted to do, as their plane arrives in Kaitaia at mid-day. We’ll see.
And there is a lot happening in March too. But right now, I have a walk to do, something I would normally do before my writing, but which this morning I reversed.
